Passing
of Ruger Camp #1 Brother Charles W. Allen
It is with sincere regret and much sorrow that I inform
you of the passing on March 12, 2012 of our Brother and Camp Chaplain Charles
W. Allen. At the age of 95, Brother Charles was one of the oldest members of record in our Order, and he may have been the oldest Brother
still active and participating in the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Charles derived his right of SUVCW membership from his Great Grandfather John
E. Allen, PVT Co. K, 45 MA Infantry.
I direct that the MG Thomas H. Ruger Camp #1 will observe
a thirty day period of mourning, beginning today, Tuesday, March13, 2012. The
Camp Charter and membership badges will
be draped in black for this period in memory of Brother Charles.
Charles is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Boudreau of Norton, Massachusetts, Judith Allen of the home, Deborah Rice Talmadge of Mineral, Virginia and several nieces and nephews, as well. Charles is grandfather to four grandchildren and one great grandchild.

As Camp Commander, I have
always felt both proud and lucky that the Ruger Camp had Brother Charles as a
member and Chaplain of our Camp. Charles has always had my highest respect as
both a World War II and Korean War Army veteran and as a true gentleman.
Charles was a loyal, devoted, and beloved member and officer of our Camp m and our Order and a friend to us
all. He will be greatly missed. Let us all keep Brother Charles Allen and his
family in our thoughts and prayers.
So ordered this 13th
day of March, 2012.
In Fraternity, Charity, and
Loyalty
